Introduction to Visual Journaling and the Altered Book Saturday September 19th 1-4 pm

$60.00

Come learn a creative way to repurpose old books that you no longer want to read.  Learn to reuse an old book as the foundation for a visual journal.  Recreate a book into a work of art that is made of several small, personal works of art.

Together we will learn how to deconstruct the book and reconstruct it through collage, drawing, painting and the written word.  And all the while we will be recycling materials!

This is a fun and rewarding process that does not require previous art making skill or training.

While we will get a good start on the books during the class, you’ll have your own book to take home and continue to use as a Visual Journal. You are invited to return to our monthly Open Studio to continue your work on your Altered Book.

Registrants are asked  to bring an old hardcover book that they no longer want and are willing to deconstruct.  Non-fiction works best; biographies, history, sociology - books that mention people, culture, the language of emotion and human interaction.  Books written in languages other than English also work.   Used books can be purchased cheap at flea markets and garage sales if you do not have a book of your own to bring.

You will be taking this book apart so please don’t bring any books to which you have a strong emotional attachment  All materials, other than the used books, will be provided.

*If you have trouble finding a book, please email me at BarbaraDavisLCSW@gmail.com
